Why this one
Holding a board or strip against the inside edge of an L-shaped frame while gluing or fastening a square corner.
The L-frame leg_x provides the fixed anvil face. The jaw on leg_y carries the threaded screw, which presses through a ball-and-socket swivel pad onto the workpiece so the pad stays flat on non-parallel stock.
