Why this one

Teaching or demonstration plate cam that turns rotation into straight vertical motion

The cam turns on the pin, which is fixed in the base plate. The lobe pushes up the flat foot of the follower. The square rod slides in the slot of the guide block on the plate, so the follower can only move vertically. When the lobe passes, the follower drops back onto the round part of the cam.
