STL volume and weight calculator

Upload an STL, 3MF, or OBJ and get its volume, surface area, size, and the filament weight and cost for PLA, PETG, ABS, and more.

Good to know

Weight is estimated from the shell (walls, top, bottom) plus the infill you set. A slicer will be a little different, because it knows the exact toolpath.

How it works

  1. 1Drop an STL, 3MF, OBJ, PLY, or GLB in the box above.
  2. 2Set the file units, the material, the infill, and the wall thickness.
  3. 3Read the volume, the weight, the filament length, and the cost.

How the weight is worked out

The volume comes from the mesh itself, triangle by triangle, so it is exact for a closed mesh.

Walls, top, and bottom are solid: surface area × wall thickness. The rest of the inside is filled at the infill you set.

Weight is that printed volume × the material density. Filament length assumes 1.75 mm.

Questions

Is the STL volume calculator free?
Yes. You get 3 runs a month without an account. Sign in with your email, free, and there is no limit.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser. It never reaches our servers.
Why is the volume wrong?
Volume needs a closed mesh. If the STL has holes, run it through the STL repair tool first. Also check the file units: a model in meters reads a billion times smaller in mm³.
How accurate is the weight?
Usually within 10% of the slicer. The slicer knows the exact toolpath; this uses the wall thickness you give it.
