Convert STL to OBJ

Free STL to OBJ converter. Runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer. Preview the model, then download the OBJ.

Good to know

The result is one OBJ group, in the same units as the STL. Most 3D apps treat OBJ as Y-up, so the model is turned to stand upright there too.

How it works

  1. 1Drop your STL file in the box above. It is read in your browser.
  2. 2Check the preview and the size. If the STL came in meters or inches, set the scale.
  3. 3Download the OBJ. It opens in Blender, Maya, and 3ds Max.

About STL

STL (Stereolithography). The default 3D printing format since 1987: a bare list of triangles. Every slicer reads it, but it has no units, no color, and no parts.

Units: None in the file. Slicers read the numbers as millimeters. Up axis: Z. Opens in Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura, OrcaSlicer, and Blender.

About OBJ

OBJ (Wavefront OBJ). A plain-text mesh format from Wavefront. Common in 3D art, scans, and game assets. Materials live in a separate .mtl file.

Units: None in the file. Usually meters or centimeters from 3D apps. Up axis: Y. Opens in Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, and most slicers.
