Convert PLY to STL

Free PLY to STL converter. Runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer. Preview the model, then download the STL.

Good to know

Scans often come in meters, and the vertex colors are dropped. Scans are rarely watertight, so run the STL repair tool after converting.

How it works

  1. 1Drop your PLY file in the box above. It is read in your browser.
  2. 2Check the preview and the size. If the PLY came in meters or inches, set the scale.
  3. 3Download the STL. It opens in Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, and Cura.

About PLY

PLY (Polygon File Format). The Stanford scan format. 3D scanners and photogrammetry apps export it, often with a color per vertex.

Units: None in the file. Scanners usually write meters or millimeters. Up axis: Z. Opens in MeshLab, Blender, and CloudCompare.

About STL

STL (Stereolithography). The default 3D printing format since 1987: a bare list of triangles. Every slicer reads it, but it has no units, no color, and no parts.

Units: None in the file. Slicers read the numbers as millimeters. Up axis: Z. Opens in Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura, OrcaSlicer, and Blender.
